The Mars Society is pleased to announce that Univelt Incorporated has made a grand donation of books to help support the ongoing crowdfunding campaign to launch the Mars Technology Institute.

The Univelt Mars Library is a 14-volume set of historic books including:

1. The Founding Convention of the Mars Society – proceedings volumes in three parts, edited by Robert Zubrin

2. Strategies for Mars (invited papers by Carol Stoker), Volume 86, AAS Science and Technology Series

3.. The Case for Mars – proceedings volumes from 1984, 1987, 1990, 1993, 1996 (Volumes 62, 74, 75, 89, 90, 97, 98 AAS Science and Technology Series)

4. From Imagination to Reality (selected papers from the Journal of the British Interplanetary Society, edited by Robert Zubrin), Volumes 91 and 92, AAS Science and Technology Series.

5. The NASA Mars Conference (Volume 71, AAS Science and Technology Series).

While they last, the Mars Society will send the entire Univelt Mars Library set to everyone who chooses to become an MTI Founder by donating $1,000 or more to the MTI crowdfunding campaign.

The Mars Technology Institute is a new initiative by the Mars Society to develop the technologies needed to settle Mars and spin them off for commercial development to benefit people on Earth. By so doing we aim to create both an engine invention and an engine of finance to enable the human settlement of the Red Planet. Donations to the MTI are tax deductible.

Univelt was founded by Horace Jacobs in 1970 and has served as the publisher for the American Astronautical Society. In 1992 leadership of the business passed to Horace Jacobs’ son, Robert Jacobs, who continues to run it today.

Commenting on Univelt’s grand donation of books to support the MTI crowdfunding campaign, Mars Society President Dr. Robert Zubrin said; “This terrific book collection contains over a thousand seminal papers that published the key ideas that launched first the Mars Underground and then the Mars Society. If you want to read the papers that gave birth to virtually every important idea underpinning the human settlement of Mars, ranging from in-situ resource utilization, to Mars flight, to terraforming, they are all to be found here. This library is an intellectual feast. Everyone who wants to help develop the ideas for Mars settlement, or even just know how the movement to the Red Planet began, should own it. There can be no better gift to celebrate the historic foundation of the MTI.  We are incredibly grateful to Robert Jacobs and Univelt for making this possible.”

If you’re unable to contribute $1,000 or if you can give more, the MTI offers a wide range of exclusive rewards to donors at every giving level. To those giving at the $25 MTI Supporter level, we offer an embroidered patch with our logo. If you give $100, you will become an MTI Explorer, and will get the patch, a one-year Mars Society membership and a signed first edition hard cover copy of Dr. Zubrin’s soon to be published next book “The New World on Mars.” If you donate $1,000 or more, you become a Founder, where you will receive the Mars Library and a plaque listing you by name as a Founder. If you give $5,000 or more, you will become a Trailblazer Founder and receive a pro rata invitation to participate in the first-round private placement stock offerings in MTI spin off companies. These rewards are tokens of our appreciation, symbolizing your crucial role in this launching this historic endeavor to extend humanity’s reach to Mars.
