The Mars Society (TMS) is proud to announce an exciting partnership with Purdue University and the Journal of Human Performance in Extreme Environments (JHPEE). We will be publishing special sections within JHPEE dedicated to space analog research conducted at sites such as our Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) and Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station (Flashline). Our Analog Research Program Director, Ben Stanley, will serve as guest editor of these special sections.

We are excited to engage with the incredible researchers who have contributed to missions at these stations over the past two decades, as well as those working at the many other emerging analog facilities around the world.
This partnership is the first step in our plan to create the Journal of Space Analog Research (JSAR), which will serve the community of researchers and other stakeholders involved in conducting the science on Earth that will help us expand our capabilities in space. For more information on the type of research we are looking for, please refer to our Author’s Instructions. (hyperlink)
Approved submissions will be published digitally on an ongoing basis, but the suggested deadline for articles to reach publication in time for this year’s annual Mars Society Convention is July 15, 2025. Please direct any inquiries to jsar@marssociety.org. Submissions can be uploaded to JHPEE here. Special thanks to Barrett Caldwell, PhD, Editor-in-Chief of JHPEE for this fantastic opportunity to collaborate.
