The Mars Society is thrilled to announce a series of upcoming missions this summer to the Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station on Devon Island in the Nunavut Territory approximately 900 miles from the North Pole, advancing our mission of Mars analog research and exploration training.
Three official crews will be deployed:
- The Advanced Team (July 3–12): Tasked with assessing, repairing, and readying the research station for the season ahead.
Commander: Andy Greco | XO: Matthias Beach - Crew 17 (Silaliq) (July 12–22): Focusing on analog simulation operations, science, and community engagement.
Commander: Emily Apollonio | XO: Phantom Bagley - Crew 18 (Amaruq) (July 22–August 2): Expanding the station’s science program with studies in geology, astronaut health, and environmental research.
Commander: Diallo Wallace | XO: Dr. Mason Robbins
In addition, a European science team, including Blue Origin astronaut Sarah Sabry and potentially two ESA astronauts, will conduct an independent mission from mid-August through early September under the leadership of Benjamin Pothier, a noted environmental scientist specializing in extreme environments.

The overarching goals for all teams are: Safety, Simulation, Science, and Service to the Community.
Planned science work includes astronaut health research, water sampling for nano-plastics, magnetic field and radiation monitoring, extremophile and algae studies, and geological fieldwork—vital investigations as we prepare for future human missions to Mars.
Stay tuned for updates from Devon Island as we continue pushing the frontiers of analog research in one of Earth’s most Mars-like environments!
