Mars Society Launches Dual Design Contest for Mars Desert Research Station Logo

The Mars Society announced the launch of an international dual design competition for creating a logo to be used as a patch and t-shirt by crew members at the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) in Utah, the largest and longest-running Mars analog program in the world.

The theme of the customized logo is to represent what MDRS stands for – advocating and preparing for human exploration and settlement of Mars – but must be obvious and self-explanatory to all, including members of the general public.

The only rule requirements for those submitting are that the logo for the patch must be capable of being embroidered and measure approximately 4” by 3” in its final design. It should be in full color, but a limited number of colors should be used. Submissions for the t-shirt have more flexibility in terms of dimensions and can be one of two types: those that are limited to one color graphic designs and those that use full color in their designs.

“We want every participant to freely explore their creativity when beginning their design process. We truly want to be completely wowed by all of the submissions,” said Lauren Wright, a member of the MDRS management team.

All designs for the MDRS logo contests should be submitted in the form of a j.peg file and emailed to: mdrs-contests@marssociety.org no later than Monday, July 6th, 5:00 pm MDT. The top three designs of each competition will be chosen by MDRS management and will be announced during the week of July 20th.  The final design will be selected by voting of the general public and past crew members.

Winners will have their logos featured prominently on Mars Society and MDRS content and social media platforms. The new patches and t-shirts will also be sold online to help support the Mars Society and its MDRS program.

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing your design submissions!
