Donate Marscoin

Marscoin is a cryptocurrency project founded in 2014 and unveiled at our 2014 Convention. It was designed from the beginning to be the future currency of a Martian economy. Based on Litecoin and Bitcoin, it is unlike many recent alt-coins because it’s not a token, it’s a full-fledged cryptocurrency with its own blockchain and in fact is one of the longest-running blockchains in existence.

The Mars Society benefited from Marscoin early on, when the founder, Mr. Lennart Lopin, donated 500k Marscoin of the first initial mining activities to the Mars Society, and another 500k Marscoin to the Mars One project. Then, in 2019, representatives from the Mars Society along with Mr. Lopin convinced the Mars One team to donate their stake to the Mars Society.

Currently, the Mars Society is taking a “long-term holder” approach to Marscoin, considering it like any other investment where its value will grow over time. We adhere to all existing and emerging cryptocurrency best practices for nonprofit organizations in the United States and around the world, to ensure our 501(c)(3) status is maintained.
