Phoenix Trenches, Labeled
10.10.08
Here is a panoramic view of various trenches dug by NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander.
The
images that make up this panorama were taken by Phoenix's Surface Stereo Imager
at about
4 p.m., local solar time at the landing site, on the 131st, Martian day, or sol,
of the mission
(Oct. 7, 2008).
The trenches are labeled in orange and other features are labeled in blue.
For scale, the "Pet Donkey" trench just to the right of center is approximately
38 centimeters
(15 inches) long and 31 to 34 centimeters (12 to 13 inches) wide. In addition,
the rock in
front of it, "Headless," is about 11.5 by 8.5 centimeters (4.5 by 3.3 inches),
and about 5
centimeters (2 inches) tall.
