Obama Transition Team Soliciting Public Feedback On Space Program
After running the largest and arguably most effective presidential campaign web presence in history, President-elect Barack Obama's support team is continuing to build on that model by soliciting public input for the transition team at a new web site dedicated to direct citizen communications, Change.gov.
One of the most relevant pieces of the web site is its "Open
For Questions" area, which allows members of the general public to
propose and vote on questions for the Obama transition team; as noted
on
the site, the highest-ranked questions will be answered by the
transition team at an unspecified time in the near future. While
current questions cover a range of topics, including energy policy and
the current financial crisis, a number of space-related and even
Mars-specific questions exist, including entries such as "What changes
will be made to NASA? Will the USA be restored to being the leader in
space exploration and discovery?" and "What is the Obama
administration's policy in regards to space exploration? Will NASA be
provided the funding required to return American astronauts to the Moon
and send them on to Mars?"
This opportunity for direct citizen feedback represents an excellent opportunity for members of the Mars Society and other space advocates to have their voices heard. By spending just a few minutes either voting for existing Mars-related questions and/or creating your own questions, you can demonstrate to the Obama administration that the public is very interested in human space exploration - despite all of the other issues that are currently threatening to monopolize federal attention and budgets for the foreseeable future.
Please note that, while the site does require registration in order to vote or post questions, registration is free and easy. Queries regarding registration problems should be directed to the Change.gov team.
