Mars Society Announces Dates For Twelfth Annual International Convention

by Alex Kirk last modified 2008-11-12 17:23

The Mars Society is pleased to announce that the 12th Annual International Mars Society Convention will take place from July 30-August 2, 2009 in the Washington DC area, at the University of Maryland, College Park.

The programming for this event is developing well. In addition to an amazing lineup of world renowned experts in all areas of Mars exploration, we will have special programming on "Media and Space," "Art and Space," as well as extensive discussions on how the Obama Administration should advance the human space program.

We also plan on staging the "2009 Mars Blitz" on Capitol Hill. Many of you may recall that in 2006, we sent over 100 Mars Society members up to Capitol Hill to talk to Congress about the merits of sending humans to Mars. The stakes are much higher now and we hope to involve even more people this time to spread the message of the value of human Mars exploration. With a new administration and Congress, an extremely tight budget, and many other issues to distract the nation, it is even more important now that we present a clear and compelling argument to them to make sure they understand the extreme importance of a strong goal oriented space program.

Registration is currently open online. Anyone who wishes to attend the 2009 Mars Blitz should check the free "Political blitz" line item on the registration form; doing so well provide information on the number of attendees to expect, which will influence planning requirements.

More information, including the speaker lineup, hotel information, etc. will be made available as soon as possible. We hope to see you in Maryland next summer!
