Lodging Information
Details concerning University dormitory and hotel lodging accommodations for the 12th Annual International Mars Society Convention.
University Dorm Accommodations
The Mars Society has secured a number of University dorm rooms at a reasonable price for the length of the convention beginning the night of July 29th through the night of August 1st (or August 2nd if needed). Most rooms are Double occupancy (requiring a roommate), but there are a limited number of Single rooms available. There are also a limited number of Triple occupancy rooms (requiring two roommates).
The rooms are located In Charles Hall which is in the South Hill
area of the campus:

These are semi-private suite style dorms with 3 - 4 bedrooms (combination of singles/doubles/triples) with 1 - 2 bathrooms in each suite. There is also a shared living room in each area and some include a kitchen. Additional details can be found here.
Each room includes:
1) Convenient location with a 10 minute walk to Stamp Union for
Convention events
2) Linen (towel, blanket, sheets and a pillow)
3) Cable internet is available in the room
4) All rooms are no-smoking rooms and the building is a smoke free
environment.
COST
- The cost for a Double/Triple room is $50.50 per person per night
($202 per person for the 4 nights).
- The cost for a single room is $60.50 per night ($242 for the 4
nights).
One advantage of staying at the dorm is that it avoids the 11% Maryland Hotel tax because the event is through the University of Maryland.
REGISTRATION
Registration will be done through the Mars Society convention
website. Rooms must be secured with a credit card.
The deadline for dorm housing registration is July 1st while rooms are
available.
For double/triple rooms please clearly identify your roommate. In the
event that no roommate is identified, a roommate will be assigned based
on gender.
Rooms can be gender mixed with male and female roommates as long as
both are over 18 years old. People under 18 are permitted as long as
they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Keys will be available at the 24 hour service desk in Annapolis Hall
which is located near Charles Hall where you will be staying.
Hotel Information
If the dorm availability fills up, or if you would prefer a hotel, there are a number of area hotels in reasonable proximity to the University.
The entrance to the university is at approximately 8400 Baltimore Blvd, and the convention will be held in the Stamp Student Union, so this gives you an idea of the proximity of each hotel. Some of the hotels provide free shuttles to the University as well as subway stations in the area to access downtown Washington, DC.
Although The Mars Society does not have an Official Convention Hotel this year, these hotels are recommended for their services. All prices and services are not guaranteed and subject to change. The best rates were found by booking on-line.
