The History Of Space Exploration, Goddard Tours, Plus Convention Deadlines
The Mars Society is proud to announce that we will be holding a program called "Exploration: An Historical Perspective" at the 12th International Mars Society Convention. This panel will discuss how lessons from exploration on Earth can provide valuable insights on how to proceed with the exploration of space. These lessons can also help us hone our message as we explain to Congress and the Administration why we must engage in an ambitious human space flight program.
NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Tours
For those of you who are planning on arriving a day early for the Mars Society Conference, we have arranged a tour of the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. NASA Goddard is in Greenbelt, Maryland and primarily develops and operates unmanned scientific spacecraft. Goddard played a key role in the recent Hubble Space Telescope servicing mission. For information on NASA Goddard, check out their webpage. A $10 registration fee will be required to cover transportation and other costs. The tour will leave from Stamp Union and payment will be collected as you board the bus. Please email us at goddard@marssociety.org to let us know if you plan to participate in the Goddard Tour and the number of people in your party.
Call for Papers and Poster Session Deadline Approaching
The deadline for submitting your abstract for presentation at the 12th Annual International Mars Society Convention is June 30, 2009. This year, due to the excellent line up of plenary speakers and events, such as the Great Mars Blitz 2009, there will be limited number of tracks available and, new this year, panels will be offered to presenters on like-themed topics which will allow presenters to present to larger audiences and attendees greater opportunity to hear more papers.
The Poster Session provides a forum for presenters to highlight their research, program or project associated with the exploration and settlement of Mars. The Poster Session is scheduled for Friday evening, July 31st from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Bonus for student poster session participants: The Mars Society Steering Committee will be offering prizes for student participants.
If you haven't submitted your abstract, please do as soon as possible but no later than June 30, 2009. Abstracts should be no more than 500 words and should be sent to abstracts@marssociety.org.
