Walter Cunningham and Lori Garver to Square off in Presidential Space Policy Debate
The Mars Society is pleased to announce that there will be a debate to discuss the space exploration policy of the next President of the United States at the 11th Annual International Mars Society Convention.
Apollo 7 Astronaut Walter Cunningham will be representing Senator
McCain, and former NASA Associate Administrator Lori Garver, will be
representing Senator Obama. These prestigious representatives
will discuss how an Obama or McCain administration would advance United
States space policy over the next several years. The debate will
take place on August 14th, 2008 at 7:30pm MDT at University of
Colorado, Boulder, University Memorial Center, Glen Miller
Ballroom.
"This will be a perfect opportunity for the campaigns to articulate
their policies," said Mars Society Executive Director Chris Carberry.
"The next president will be in a unique position to move the space
program forward. Space policy could also be key in the election; many
of the 'space states' are too close to call in recent polls."
In order to guarantee the most diverse audience possible, the debate
will be free and open to the public. Anyone interested in
bringing a group to the debate should contact us at spacedebate@marssociety.org
or call (617) 909-4425, so that we can reserve seating.
