On behalf of the Mars Society Deutschland e.V., the Institute of Space Technology at the University of the Federal Armed Forces of Germany in Munich and the organizers of ECIT2008, I am pleased to invite you to a special session on space science and engineering at the 5th European Conference on Intelligent Systems and Technologies.

This session’s topic is: “The Science and Technology of Non-Agency Space Missions” (recently renamed from “The Science and Technology of Privately Funded Space Missions”).

It is aimed specifically at the scientific possibilities as well as technical and programmatic challenges of space missions conducted by private societies or non-agency research institutions under low-budget conditions.

The Technical University of Iasi's Institute of Computer Science is also a partner in the development of the high precision accelerometer system for the projected Mars Balloon Probe ARCHIMEDES.
