"Winthrop Q Sungsten here..."

"Hey, Winty! This is Jad Polar, what's up?"

"Jad, hello. Remember what we were talking about a while back--you know, the question that all kids eventually ask? Well, my daughter finally asked me all about it today!"

"That's great. Just how old is she now, Wint?"

"She's five. Anyway, I decided to use some rec-time and take Marta and Lillie out to TharsMon, it being my favorite place and all. So, Lillie and I were walking along the rim of Crater2 when I noticed we had a pretty nice view of Earth. Pointing up to the sky, I said, ' Lillie, there is Earth. See that bright, little blue light just a little ways above the horizon? I bet that there is a father and daughter on Earth pointing back at us right now! ' She stared at Earth for just a moment, then stooped to gather some pebbles to toss into the crater. I tried to return her attention back to the sky by asking her if they had been learning about Earth in her class. I told her, ' Grandpa came from Earth, I told you that, right?' Jad, she just didn't seem to be that interested. She was just running around and gathering rocks to throw. And then, it happened...she stopped and looked at the sky then looked at me and seemed to be really deep into her thoughts. I figured she was trying to remember something about Earth that she had learned in school or, maybe, some little thing that Grandpa had sent to her. Well, she finally walked over to me and looked up at me--very intently and very wide-eyed. I braced myself as she posed the Question:

'Daddy, why is the sky Orange?'

It floored me, Jad !"

" Ah, yes, the Eternal Question, Winthrop. I don't think I'll ever forget the day my young son asked me about Our sky. Awesome, ain't it? "
