Why am I asked to Log in?

by Jean Lagarde last modified 2006-09-22 14:36

You do not have to log in if you only want to browse the contents of this site that we have made publicly available. There is however some content and other benefits that are only available if you set up an account and log in.

If you saw a page that specifically told you that you were not authorized to see something, that is because we have not published the content you were trying to access to visitors who are not logged in, or because you tried to perform some other unauthorized action like leaving a comment.

Becoming a member of the web site is free

Becoming a member of the site is free. All you have to do is to click on the "join" link ( Join link image ) and to fill in the form. You have to enter a valid email address because we will email your password to it. We do not use your email address for any other purpose than Mars Society matters (see privacy notice).  Becoming a web site member allows you to:
  • Post comments or questions at the bottom of content that allows it (news articles, etc.). These help pages show this feature.
  • Track your donations. If you are not a Mars Society member but want to donate to us, having an account will allow you to see a list of the donations you have made.

Becoming a member of The Mars Society

Web members who become members of The Mars Society (which does require a membership fee as detailed on the purchase form) gain even more access. With your paid membership, you get these additional benefits on this web site:
  • Access to additional material (like the Marspapers library).
  • Your own folder in which you can write news articles or other content that you can submit for publication on this site.
Mars Society members should know that the bulk of their membership fees goes to the support of our projects, like our Mars analog research. Being a member gives you these other benefits:
