Create And Maintain Information On Congressional Committee Membership, Contact Info

This is a help needed announcement from the Mars Society. It is an experimental feature still in development. You can find help about it here.

The Mars Society, along with the Space Exploration Alliance, is attempting to make its US Congressional outreach efforts more professional and targeted. One of the main parts of this is being able to send messages to specific committee/subcommittee members. We need help entering info about committee membership into our database, and possibly ongoing assistance tracking changes in Congressional offices. Note that you DO NOT NEED COMPUTER SKILLS to be able to help us out.

While we currently have a database of all 535 members of Congress with their contact information, we have very little information in that database regarding committee membership (roughly 10 of the 40+ main committees are covered thus far). Additionally, contact information and even actual membership in Congress changes regularly; for example, while noting the members of the House Transportation Subcommittee on Aviation, I ran across four representatives who had died and been replaced by someone new since the database was first assembled in early 2007!

Links will be provided to Committee web sites, and a web form will be provided for data entry. Your job would simply be to go through each member of each committee, and on the web form, choose their name and the appropriate committee. If you're a computer programmer/professional who feels they can automate the task, please let me know, and I'll work out the details of the database layout for you.

If you are interested, we would love someone who can regularly monitor for new Congresspersons, changes in their contact info, etc. This would be particularly helpful this time next year, as the next Congress convenes for its first session.
