Member John Heasley Wins History Channel "Ideas From Our Teachers Contest" For Mars Program
Making use of materials including the History Channel's "The Universe: Mars, the Red Planet" and a Mars globe donated by the Mars Society, member John Heasley has created an award-winning educational program called "Making Martians" that will be included in an upcoming A&E channel magazine.
For his efforts, Heasley recieved a $1,000 prize from A&E and will
have his program included in the Spring 2008 Idea
Book for Educators, which is available free of charge to all
educators (link provided goes to a request form). The program is
offered as part of the Richland, WI Richland Center High School
PreCollege program.
Heasley was also recently highlighted by his local CW television affiliate for his Martian Literature course, a 3-week summer offering at RCHS that includes works such as Ray Bradbury's famous "The Martian Chronicles." Video of the feature is available for free online. For interested educators, Heasley also gave a presentation on the course at the 2004 Mars Society Convention, which is available on the Mars Society site.
