EVA #9 Report

April 17, 2008

Henrik Hargitai

Time:
1510-1905

Crew Members:
Hargitai H., Hirsch T.

Site Location:
Pathfinder Outwash and Widow's Peak

Transit Mode:
ATV

Objectives:
Search for subsurface life and collect gypsum / salt samples, measure surface temperatures.

Lessons Learned:

- Small ("toy") Spade, Brush are needed; number of sample collecting crucibles and microbiology sample collectors are never enough.

- It is good to dig 20-30 cm deep holes since interesting crystals and subsurface phenomena can be found there. Surface temperature of sand at 2-5 cm depth can reach 50 C, while at 20 cm deep it is
18 deg C.
