What a beautiful day: the heating is working, the shower is warm, the
radio telescope works, the dome of the observatory is repaired, the Sun
shines, ... if there were birds on Mars they would certainly be singing
the happiness of the Crew 70.

We had a lot of diverse activities this morning: repairs, maintenance,
bla bla bla. The afternoon was much more interesting: EVA!
EVA 1: Boris and I planned a mission to fetch a long and light bar in
the reserve area, in order to get the plane operational. We returned to the
Hab with some pieces of wood and a PVC tube. Mission accomplished? No,
the bars are too heavy. We'll have to find another solution. But this
first EVA was all the same the occasion to lose my hat: it slid at
first off my head, after which I clamped it under my chin, and it took
advantage of a moment of inattention to leave my space suit. An
impossible problem on Mars.
EVA 2: Violette and Elnaz left with the ATVs to determine the reach of
our radios, supported by Jan at the Hab. A success!

I am amazed by the efficiency of the MDRS: we just switch our mind to
"simulation", and we are on Mars! EVA strengthens this feeling of
exploration on hostile ground. My only regret is that the pressurized
tunnel which connects Hab with GreenHab, the observatory and the
engineering zone is symbolized by stones. A real tunnel would allow us
to NEVER go out of Hab without space suits.

Was für ein schöner Tag! Die Heizung funktioniert, die Dusche ist warm,
das Radioteleskop arbeitet einwandfrei, die Sonne scheint... Wenn es
auf dem Mars Vögel gäbe würden sie sicherlich vom Glück der Crew 70
singen.

Wir hatten eine Vielfalt an Aktivitäten diesen Morgen: Reparaturen,
Instandsetzungen - blablabla. Aber interessant wurde es Nachmittag:
EVA!

EVA 1: Boris und Ich hatten den Plan einen langen stabilen Stab in der
Reserve zu entdecken um die Video Drone zu reparieren. Wir kamen auch
mit verschiedenen PVC und Holzteilen zurück zum Hab. Mission
accomplished? Nein, leider waren die Teile zu schwer... Wir werden eine
andere Lösung finden müssen.

EVA2: Violette and Elnaz, unterstützt von Jan in HabControl, fuhren
mit den ATVs aus, um die Grenzen des Radiosystems auszumessen – mit
Erfolg.

Ich bin erstaunt wie effizient die MDRS funktioniert: Wir schalten
einfach auf „Simulation“ um und schon sind wir auf dem Mars! Die EVAs
bestärken das Gefühl einen fremden und gefährlichen Planeten zu
erkunden. Meine einzige Beschwerde ist, dass die Tunnel welche das Hab
mit dem Observatorium und dem Hangar verbinden nur durch Wegmarker
symbolisiert sind. Echte Tunnel würden uns erlauben während der
Simulation NIEMALS ohne Raumanzug das Habitat zu verlassen.

Die Menschheit auf dem roten Planeten – ist das nicht wunderschön.
