Log Book for March 31, 2008
Engineering Report
Violette Manning Reporting

Generator/Electricity:
Wendy
Hobbs Meter: 3993.9 hrs [ +12.6 hrs since yesterday ]
Voltage: 120 VAC
Frequency: 60 Hz
Oil Level: 7/8
Oil Pressure: 30 PSI
[*] Water Drained: no

Notes/Comments:
there does seem to be a slight oil leak. will clean up tomorrow, and
investigate further. when should the oil be changed? is there a log
somewhere?

Xantrex Inverter/Dynasty Batteries:
Time Voltage (Temp Comp) Load Temp Generator Running?
1608 26.8V 6.4A 09C yes

Notes/Comments:
i look forward to having ~3 readings/day, now that rental car issue is
settled (i am the only driver for the crew and have been away most of
today and yesterday).

Fuel Status (as of 1559):
Diesel: Approximate Reading: 1/4
Notes/Comments: I wonder how long the fuel typically lasts.
Propane Tank: Approximate Reading: 55% (550 gallons = 2082.0 L)
Gasoline: Quantity Remaining: 34 gallons = 128.7 L [ no change since yesterday ]

Oil:
[*] GenSet Quantity: 13 quarts [ no change since yesterday ]
ATV Quantity: 8 quarts [ no change since yesterday ]
[*] V'ger Quantity: 0 quarts [ no change since yesterday ]

Water Status:
Outside Potable Water Tank Level: 300 gallons = 1135.6 L
Trailer Potable Water Tank Level: 0 inches from the base
[**] Potable Water Meter Reading: 30 gallons = 113.6 L
[ +9972233.4 gallons since March 29, 2008 ]
Out to Toilet Meter Reading: 8436.0 gallons = 31933.6 L
[ no change since yesterday ]
[**] In to GreenHab Meter Reading: NO VALUE SUPPLIED
Dishwasher Runs: 0
Notes/Comments: The in to greenhab gauge seems to be not working. I think I recall Elisha telling me that this was intentional? perhaps I am looking at
the wrong gauge? I am looking at the other gauge (other than the out
to toiled gauge) under the bioball tanks near the floor.

GreenHab:
Crops Watered: yes
Crop Condition: water will be taken from the shower this evening to water the crops.
How do we turn on the heater? i will read the manual some more, so
perhaps I will already have the answer by the time a response makes it
all the way to mars.

Observatory: not used

Transportation:
Kawasaki ATVs
ATV 1
Used: yes
Oil Checked: yes
[*] Fuel Consumed: NaN gallons = NaN L
Tire Status: ok

ATV 2
Used: yes
Oil Checked: yes
[*] Fuel Consumed: NaN gallons = NaN L
Tire Status: ok

ATV 3
Used: yes
Oil Checked: yes
[*] Fuel Consumed: NaN gallons = NaN L
Tire Status: ok

Notes/Comments: These are simply awesome. I am wondering how many mpg they get? I could use this info to give a more accurate reading for the fuel
consumed (unless a really rough estimate suffices).

Mars Surface Suits: not yet used

Computers/Networking Infrastructure:
I am investigating the possibility of simulating actual latency from
the internet. I know I can at least do this with a makeshift socks
proxy, with a shell script that my friend dug up for me.

GreenHab:
pumped out groundwater for the first time. black hose to pump is
leaky. I understand that crew 69 made some mods to the filtration
system. Where is the documentation for this, please? We need to know
which part of the system to switch off before and after pumping
groundwater (if I understood crew 69's instructions correctly, there
should be a time when the system is switched off for a short bit).

Upgrade Work: plans to possibly restore the airlock area

Notes/Comments:
Today should be the last day that I will have to spend all day driving
and dealing with rental car situations. As we go into full simulation,
hopefully tomorrow, I will be able to take multiple readings and enjoy
being able to spend adequate time on the engineering duties.
