Project: Green Hab - Plant maintenance

Personnel: Tulika Raj

The plants in the Green Hab were watered after three days. The
temperature inside the Green Hab was around 90 degrees Farenheit in the
morning, but with much work going on in the grey water area of the
Green hab, the temperature was recorded later to be 81 degrees Farenheit.
The corn plants had yellowing edges. The lettuce was healthy, and some
carrots planted by crew 68 have started sprouting. Except for the corn
plants, all other plants seemed healthy including the aquatic plants.

Technical/Equipment Issues: None

Discussion:
The water hyacinth tank (AT2) was full, but the duck weed tank (AT3)
was fairly empty. The water hyacinth tank may need transplanting. AT1
tank did not have anything growing in it; however, there was a lot of
froth on the water. I was hoping maybe half of the water hyacinths
could be transplanted into AT1. Although, Crew 68 mission summary
mentions that the plants in Aquatic Tank AT2 were transplanted back to
AT1 but by the time their rotation ended they have had to re-transplant
the plants back to AT2 due to the plants dying. What needs to be done
in this case? Also, what is the growth rate of water hyacinths? If they
grow too fast, what do we do with the over population in the aquatic
tanks? Everything else looked good in the Green Hab. The weather is
getting warmer, I was wondering if we still need heating in the Green
Hab, as that might save some power.
