EVA #4 Report
March 6, 2008
Veronica Ann Zabala-Aliberto
Time:
Departed at 12:30; Returned at 17:30 hrs
Crew Members:
Commander, HSO, Chief Engineer, Mission Specialist, Executive Officer-in-Training, Security Officer
Site Location:
Candor Chasma and the vicinity thereof.
Transit Mode:
PEV #1, #2, and #3
Objectives:
The objectives of this EVA were to go to a region not previously visited by the F.L.A.M.E. crew in search of concretion-bearing formations. We were also to instruct our Chief Engineer how to conduct comparative planetary geology field methodologies in observing the environment around you and interpreting the geologic history. The F.L.A.M.E. students participated in the EVA and collected samples of their own and really enjoyed themselves. Each EVA they participate in, they learn more and more. Not only about geology but also about how to help each other in times of need and to communicate more openly and professionally to one another. They know that they have to pay close attention to their environment and their crewmembers while on EVA.
All objectives were met in this EVA with the exception of breaking simulation due to a short-lived emergency with one of the Crew members needing to head back to the MDRS to take care of some personal business.
Lessons Learned:
"What grinds my gears is that the PEVs do not go as fast as you would like them to in times of nature's calling." "Mission critical issues with emergency egress procedures of spacesuit do not apply under extreme pressure of lower torso during an EVA." "That's what cooks my turkey."
