Cassandra Marion Reporting

EVA #18 Report

Time:
Departed at 08:30; Returned at 20:01

Crew Members:
Aravind Seeni, Guy de Carufel, Randall Shelaga, Phillip Cunio,
Cassandra Marion, Heather Allaway, Chris Ostafew

Site Location:
Goblin Valley State Park and Arches National Park

Transit Mode:
Van - Pedestrian

Objectives:
To reward the crew for two weeks of hard work that still isn't over and
to drop off Guy at the bus station in Green River. To introduce the
crew to the Entrada and Navajo sandstone Formations.

Lessons Learned:
The crew learned the sun's UV is just as strong here as in Florida.
Heather learned she needs to do something about her fear of small
spaces as she was becoming panicked in the slot canyon. There the
whole crew learned how energetic and erosive the desert flood waters
can be and how dangerous it could be if caught in the canyon during the
rain. In addition, they learned the difference between petrified or
lithified aeolian and fluvial dunes. They also learned about goblins
hiding in the desert valleys and huge sandstone arches and realized how
very cool geology is!
