Special Science Report
Heather Allaway Reporting
Project:
Protection by the Regolith
Personnel:
Heather Allaway (Crew 67)
(EVA 4) Philip Cunio, Zahra Khan
Operations Data Collected:
Plate count agar was made to cross train the crew on our second rainy
day. The goal was to allow the crew to choose locations in the hab to
collect samples from and plate the samples on the agar. The samples
would then be incubated and the crew would be able to see the extent of
what grows around the hab.
Technical/Equipment Issues:
The autoclave flashed "heat up took too long, reload equipment and rerun
cycle" 2 times in a row. When it read cooling chamber before it was
to begin pressurization and heating the temperature in the chamber
would increase and decrease.
Discussion:
Neither the Chief Engineer nor I could figure out what was wrong that
made the autoclave show the error message twice. In the manual it says
if it shows this message 2 cycles in a row to contact the service
person.
Questions for CSO:
If I am to complete my project I need the autoclave to sterilize agar
so any ideas how to figure out what went wrong on the cycles would be
appreciated.
