EVA #15 Report

February 9, 2008

Arthur Guest

Time:
Departed: 13:53 Returned: 16:54

Crew Members:
Kerry Cupit, Arthur Guest

Site Location:
3.8 km NW of Hab on Mid Ridge Planitia (along Copernicus Highway)

Transit Mode:
ATV

Objectives:
To continue sampling for Kerry's Soil Gas Analysis Research Project
To introduce Arthur to the equipment related to geological sampling
To point out and discuss several geological sites along the way.

All objectives were met satisfactorily. Kerry was able to successfully
complete some introductory cross-training in geology for Arthur.
A
total of four sampling holes were dug and analyzed during this EVA. For
more information on the results of the geological study, please refer
to the geologist's report.

Lessons Learned:
Scientific tools (such as sledge hammers) should be securely fastened
to the back of the ATV before transiting through rough terrain. Equipment (such
as the electronic ground thermometer) should be tested before each EVA
to ensure operational status. Also, Arthur learned much about the
geological history of the surrounding area as well as techniques such
as how to use a manual auger to dig sample holes.
