EVA #10 Report

February 8, 2008

Kerry Cupit

Time:
Departed: 10:12 Returned: 13:45

Crew Members:
Kerry Cupit and Nasim Kaveh

Site Location:
3.8km northwest of Hab, along Copernicus Highway, on Mid Ridge Planitia

Transit Mode:
ATV (x2)

Objectives:
Locate and begin first soil gas survey. Hoping to attempt 3 of 18
holes.

Lessons Learned:
Soil types vary widely even within 200-300m, therefore it is difficult
to predict drilling difficulty, and therefore EVA time, without looking
at extremely small scale topographic maps beforehand that can be
correlatable with known geologic units. However, topographic maps at
those scales usually don't exist (with 1m contour intervals for
example) for large areas.

Interesting stops along the way should be budgeted into EVA time
considerations, particularly when a secondary objective of our mission
is cross-training between disciplines.

2 out of 3 holes were drilled.
