Log Book for March 4, 2007
Engineering Report
Artemis Westenberg Reporting

Generator/Electricity:

Casper: not used
Wendy Hobbs Meter: 2882.7 hrs (+21.9 hrs since yesterday)
Voltage: 119 VAC
Frequency: 57 Hz
Oil Level: 3/4
Oil Pressure: 40 PSI
Water Drained: no
Notes/Comments: added 1/2 qt oil.

Xantrex Inverter/Dynasty Batteries:

Time - Voltage (Temp Comp) - Load - Temp - Generator Running
19:17 - 26.7 - 19 - 06 - Yes
Notes/Comments: The genset was on all day. the batteries are getting a bit warmer. Paul told us to down the generator every day for 5 hour intervals. We will start tomorrow.

Fuel Status (as of 17:15):

Diesel: Approximate Reading: 7/8
Propane Tank: Approximate Reading: 58% (580 gallons = 2195.5 L)
Gasoline Quantity Remaining: 89 gallons = 336.9 L (no change since yesterday)

Oil Status:

GenSet Quantity: 3 quarts (no change since yesterday)
ATV Quantity: 5 quarts (no change since yesterday)
V'ger Quantity: 24 quarts (no change since yesterday)

Water Status:

Outside Potable Water Tank Level: 215 gallons = 813.9 L
Trailer Potable Water Tank Level: 100 cm from the base
Potable Water Meter Reading: 19974.5 gallons = 75611.5 L (no change since yesterday)
Out to Toilet Meter Reading: 6586.3 gallons = 24931.8 L (no change since yesterday)
In to GreenHab Meter Reading: 7705.4 gallons = 29168.0 L (no change since yesterday)
Dishwasher Runs: 0
Notes/Comments: I am a little bit confused where the potable water meter is supposed to be. As the meter up on the attic gives a completely different number compared to the reading of last night. We are not using the dishwasher, as our commander puts it: we have children for that. Seriously, we think that the dishwasher is taking up too much space on the kitchen counter and that we'd rather have that to prepare food.

GreenHab:

Status: Bit better, but need lots of attention
Crops Watered: yes
Crop Condition: The plants really need re-potting. I doubt we have enough potting soil for that. Iahu-Anat and I will look into that when she starts her experiment tomorrow.

Transportation:

V'ger Used: yes
Oil Checked: yes
Fuel Consumed: 0 gallons = 0 L
Tire Status: good
Odometer: 184310 miles (no change since yesterday)

Kawasaki ATV-1 Used: no
Oil Checked: no
Tire Status: good

Kawasaki ATV-2 Used: no
Oil Checked: no
Tire Status: good

Kawasaki ATV-3 Used: no
Oil Checked: no
Tire Status: sux

Notes/Comments: V'ger being used by Crew 58. So reading of odometer and gallons used will have to wait until V'ger returns.

Miscellaneous Infrastructure:

HVAC: Nothing to report, off of heat regimen to accommodate C59.

Mars Surface Suits: Not used today

Computers/Networking Infrastructure: Are working fine, bandwith is taken up by a couple of videoclips for Dutch TV being put on the engineering server by Paul for us. Ryan Kobrick made them for us, and that is much appreciated. Appliances: Nothing to report.

Observatory: Nothing further to report.

Data Logger: Here.

Upgrade Work: None.

Notes/Comments: The Crew changeover was interesting. Even after coming to MDRS for 4 times before there are completely different engineering systems to greet me. The life of an engineer on Mars is most certainly interesting.
