Log Book for February 19, 2007
Commander's Check-In
Melissa Battler Reporting

Crew Physical Status: Exhausted from 2 intense days of science training and planning with the FMARS Science Advisory Group (SAG), but very happy and excited to plan our four-month rotation!

Time Departed/Returned from EVA: No EVA's today.

Brief Narrative of Field Mission Results: None.

Plans for Tomorrow: Engineering training and planning for FMARS; firearms theory and safe handling; ATV training (IF ground has dried up; it rained for about an hour, and then snowed for several hours this evening); write-up of notes from SAG meetings.

Report Transmission Schedule: Engineering Report by 8:00, HSO Report, Journalist Report, Daily Photos, and Video Training Log by 9:00 pm.

Maintenance: Expanding foam seal applied around window in state room 6, and other cracks around Hab.

EVA Narrative/Data/Interpretations: N/A

Inventory: Food supplies seem to be adequate; have ordered Mountain House food for 3 of our sim-days and expect that to arrive in about 7 days.

Miscellaneous: Today we had an intense day of meetings with the Science Advisory Group and Robert Zubrin. It was very exciting to see how all of our projects are coming together, and to plan our preliminary methodologies and hypotheses. We also spent a bit of time brain-storming a name for our FMARS mission… Together, we came up with "MAIA" (Mars Arctic Intensive Analogue), and we're fairly happy with it. Please see Journalist Report for more background on this name! After coming up with MAIA, the SAG and Robert said their goodbyes. Matt went along with them, to bring V'ger back to MDRS. Shortly after they departed, it began to rain, and shortly after that the rain turned into snow! The crew is now recovering from our 2 days of intense brain-work, and looking forward to a nice warm meal, and a good night's sleep.

Support Requested: none
