Notes/Comments: We investigated why the water is not being pumped from the outside water tank to the Hab. It was discovered that the pump is getting power, the drive rotating, but the impeller was missing 5 of 6 blades - making it difficult to push water. It has been noted before that several pump impellers are needed. We will continue to pump water from the water tank on the trailer until the new impellers arrive. See WebDev for a photo of the impeller.
GreenHab:
Status: The cylindrical trickle tank 1 pump that failed was replaced with a square one leaving one square and no cylindrical replacement pumps working. The filter bag that was around the cylindrical one does not fit the square one. No mesh fabric with similar pore size was found. A piece of 20"X18" window screen fabric was cut out of a larger piece stored in the engineering tent and made into a filter bag. It should prevent larger debris from passing through, however the pore size is 2-4 times as large as the original bag. See photo on WebDAV
Crops Watered: yes
Crop Condition: Crop looks amazing - green and tasty!
Transportation:
V'ger Used: yes
Oil Checked: no
Fuel Consumed: 0 gallons = 0 L
Tire Status: good
Odometer: 182151 miles (no change since yesterday)
Kawasaki ATV-1 Used: yes
Oil Checked: yes
Fuel Consumed: 1 gallon = 3.8 L
Tire Status: good
Kawasaki ATV-2 Used: yes
Oil Checked: yes
Fuel Consumed: 1 gallon = 3.8 L
Tire Status: good
Kawasaki ATV-3 Used: no
Oil Checked: no
Tire Status: good
Notes/Comments: Trouble shot ATV-1 and 2 today since they would not remain running this morning, after they were running fine yesterday evening. The pilot screw and idle setting were changed updated for both and the spark plugs cleaned. ATV-1 now stays running and is considered usable. ATV-2 still will not run at a constant RPM, engine speed is unsteady, and the ATV will only reach a maximum of ~15mph. It revs up and down with the throttle held constant. We suspect the mixture is too rich and that the timing is possibly out of synch. With the engine components cleaned and the trouble shooting techniques unsuccessful we are looking for help from mission support for suggestions of what to try next. Paul Graham took V'ger to get some repairs done and it has not been returned yet to input other information.
Miscellaneous Infrastructure:
HVAC: Nothing further to report.
Mars Surface Suits: MSS-3/PLSS-5 used on EVA-8 (Biology/Geology), Duration: 2.75 hrs. Status: No sqwaks reported. MSS-S-1/PLSS-2 used on EVA-8 (Biology/Geology), Duration: 2.75 hrs. Status: PTT switch experiencing intermittent failures. Request Donning/Doffing procedures for S-1 suit. Request troubleshooting procedures for PTT switches and mikes/speakers.
Computers/Networking Infrastructure: Nothing further to report.
Appliances: Nothing further to report.
Data Logger: Nothing further to report.
Upgrade Work: The new bathroom shelf and shelf support brackets were painted and will be installed tomorrow after fully dried. See WebDav for photo.
Notes/Comments: Installed utility sink faucet with new handle valves. Dug down beneath the walking mud grid just in front of the main GreenHab door because it was sticking up catching the door showing potential for trapping someone in GreenHab. The hole in the gray water air duct by the back door of the GreenHab was taped closed so cold air does not get in and freeze the line. See WebDAV for photos.
