Log Book for February 12, 2007
Commander's Check-In
Lealem Mulugeta Reporting

Crew Physical Status: Three of the crewmembers were too sick to go out on EVAs today, so we only had a morning EVA for collecting microbial samples from Candor Chasma. The afternoon was largely spent on maintenance work around the Hab.

Time Departed for/Returned from EVA: EVA-08: Lealem and Olathe, 9:30 am – 12:15 pm, Candor Chasma.

Brief Narrative of Field Mission Results: Sampled four work sites for halophilic and endolithic/endoevaporitic micro organisms.

Plans for Tomorrow: If the weather is good and all crewmembers are healthy, there will be two EVAs. A morning EVA for microbial survey and regolith landform mapping, and an afternoon EVA for further work on the Sklar Field Documentation Methodology.

Report Transmission Schedule: Engineering Report by 7:00 pm, Journalist Report, EVA report, and Daily Photos by 9:00 pm.

Maintenance: Trouble shooting on ATV 2, replaced trickle tank 1 pump, trouble shooting on external water tank, installed lab sink faucet, cleaned up and painted bathroom shelf and shelf brackets, dug underneath walk way grid to prevent interference with GreenHab door, and duct taped a hole on the grey water air duct at the opening in the GreenHab to prevent cold air entering duct and freezing trapped water

EVA Narrative/Data/Interpretations: Pan photo taken at 20 degrees increments, and four worksites documented and sampled.

Food/Essential Supplies Inventory: None.

Miscellaneous: None.

Support Requested: None.

Lealem Mulugeta
Commander, MDRS Crew 57
