EVA Reports
Olathe Clark Reporting
EVA-1:
Time: 1015 - 1200
Site Location: Between Radio Ridge and Skyline Rim
Crew: Lealem, Jon, Olathe
Objectives: Scout to the West of the Hab for halophile sample sites for the microbial survey.
Mode of Transport: Pedestrian
Tasks Performed: A FDM panoramic photo was taken at 0517934, 4250708 (note: XXXX000 coordinate not used). White deposits were noted at 300 degrees and a horizon photo was taken. A sample of a possible sodium bicarbonate deposit was taken at 0517850, 4250731 for lab analysis; FDM was followed.
Lessons Learned: Large salt deposits, and therefore halophiles, may be abundant at the base of ridges in this area. We will investigate this possibility by looking at information from previous crews, as well as scouting Skyline Rim and taking samples for lab analysis. It may also be beneficial to focus on this type of landform for Regolith-Landform Mapping.
EVA-02:
Time: 3:15 pm to 5:00 pm
Crew Members: EVA Commander: Danielle, EVA Crew: Mel and Randy
Site Location: UTM 0520000 4251000 and surrounding area
Transit Mode: Pedestrian EVA
Objectives: Scouting mission for areas of evaporites and areas conducive to the growth of Halophiles.
Lessons Learned: The following points of interest are reported:
- Suspected evaporite deposits and a desert rose found on outwash plain.8
- Desert roses found.
- Panorama taken at UTM 0518994 4251009
- Suspected dinosaur bones discovered.
- Suspected fossils, possibly petrified wood, possibly coprolites.
- Suspected coprolites.
- Fossils or gypsum deposit?
- Suspected evaporite deposit similar to first EVA-02 Waypoint at UTM 0519013 4251067
