EVA Reports
Cassandra Marion & Seth Koterba Reporting
EVA-17:
Cassandra Marion
Time: 1020 - 1205
Site Location: Bob's Rock Garden and the Man in the Hat (Funny Face)
Crew: Cassie, Adrienne
Objectives: To explore Bob's rock garden.
Tasks Performed: We climbed to the top of Bob's Rock Garden and took many photos. We found a good source of chert that had eroded out of the fluvial deposits and collected some for the Hab lab. We also visited the Man in the Hat, but the stratigraphy was very washed out, so we just enjoyed the scenery. It was a great final EVA.
Lessons Learned: We learned that we don't have to go very far to find an interesting place to study and enjoy.
EVA-18:
Seth Koterba
Time: 1020 - 1205
Site Location: Antarctica
Crew: Anna, Brogan, Ryan and Seth
Objectives: Initial construction EVA on the new ATV refueling station.
Tasks Performed: Surveying the construction site and digging the holes of for the platform foundation
Lessons Learned: Digging holes in the desert is not easy. The topsoil is very fine, but the under layer was quite hard. As we tried to break through the under layer all the topsoil spilled back into the holes. Quite annoying.
EVA-19:
Seth Koterba
Time: 1415 - 1700
Site Location: Antarctica
Crew: Anna, Brogan, Ryan and Seth
Objectives: Second construction EVA on the new ATV refueling station.
Tasks Performed: Cut the 4x4 support beams, positioned the support beams and laid concrete to secure the foundation.
Lessons Learned: Mixing and laying concrete was significantly harder to do in simulation than we expected it to be. Visibility and flexibility were degraded because of the suits and resulted in the difficulty that we experienced.
