Log Book for January 29, 2007
Engineering Report
Brogan Hetrick Reporting

Generator/Electricity:

Casper: not used
Wendy Hobbs Meter: 2255.1 hrs (+19.9 hrs since yesterday)
Voltage: 118 VAC
Frequency: 59 Hz
Oil Level: 7/8
Oil Pressure: 40 PSI
Water Drained: yes
Notes/Comments: The generator miraculously had no problems today.

Xantrex Inverter/Dynasty Batteries:

Time - Voltage (Temp Comp) - Load - Temp - Generator Running
19:00 - 26.4 - 12 - 06 - Yes

Fuel Status (as of 19:00):

Diesel: Approximate Reading: 1/2
Propane Tank: Approximate Reading: 17% (170 gallons = 643.5 L)
Gasoline Quantity Remaining: 64 gallons = 242.3 L (-9 gallons since yesterday)
Notes/Comments: After fixing the ATVs this morning, they worked as well as we could expect. They supported nearly 30 km worth of EVA today.

Oil Status:

GenSet Quantity: 17 quarts (no change since yesterday)
ATV Quantity: 12 quarts (-3 quarts since yesterday)
V'ger Quantity: 15 quarts (no change since yesterday)
Notes/Comments: ATV3 still leaks oil, but it is better then it has been. (See Notes/Comments for Transportation.)

Water Status:

Outside Potable Water Tank Level: 300 gallons = 1135.6 L
Trailer Potable Water Tank Level: 68.5 cm from the base
Potable Water Meter Reading: 18030.8 gallons = 68253.8 L (+36.8 gallons since yesterday)
Out to Toilet Meter Reading: 6019.3 gallons = 22785.5 L (+9.4 gallons since yesterday)
In to GreenHab Meter Reading: 7257.4 gallons = 27472.2 L (no change since yesterday)
Flushes: 0
Showers: 2
Sponge Baths: 0
Notes/Comments: We did not fill the in-hab water tank today until after levels were taken.

GreenHab:

Status: Anna has begun an inventory of all materials in the GreenHab.
Crops Watered: yes
Crop Condition: Crops are wonderful!

Transportation:

V'ger Used: no
Oil Checked: no
Tire Status: good
Odometer: 0 miles

Kawasaki ATV-1 Used: yes
Oil Checked: yes
Fuel Consumed: 3.0 gallons = 11.4 L
Tire Status: good

Kawasaki ATV-2 Used: yes
Oil Checked: yes
Fuel Consumed: 3.0 gallons = 11.4 L
Tire Status: good

Kawasaki ATV-3 Used: yes
Oil Checked: yes
Fuel Consumed: 3.0 gallons = 11.4 L
Tire Status: good

Notes/Comments: Air filters, fuel lines, idle settings, battery voltage and oil were all checked today in all three ATVs. It was determined that the ATV-1 fuel switch must be selected to the reserve position to take fuel off the main tank. Nothing significantly wrong was noticed. The fuel was verified not to contain water, by pouring some into a jar and letting it settle. We tested the ATVs and they operated as expected. We have decided not to operate ATV-3 in reverse, because when it is shifted into reverse one of the gears pushed against the broken casing causing most of its oil leaking. If operated only in High or Low, leakage is minimized.

Miscellaneous Infrastructure:

HVAC: Nothing further to report.

Mars Surface Suits: Suits 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 were all used during EVAs today. The are all functioning well.

Computers/Networking Infrastructure: Nothing further to report.

Appliances: Nothing further to report.

Data Logger: Nothing further to report.

Upgrade Work: Anna fixed a leak in the bathroom sink. The PVC piping under the counter came apart. She used PVC cement and silicon to reattach the piping and seal it.

Notes/Comments: In general things are going pretty well. The ATVs worked well today, we had no problems with the generator, and the engineering team was able to complete an EVA specifically for the purpose of planning for construction of a fuel platform for fueling the ATVs.
