Commander's Check-In
Reece Lumsden Reporting
Crew Status: The crew are very tired but still motivated and in high spirits.
Daily Recap: Today we entered the first day of our five days in full simulation conditions. We had a full day scheduled and were able to complete all three EVAs that we had planned for:
EVA-1: Susmita and Heather undertook an EVA to take water samples at White Creek reservoir. These samples will be anlaysed for pH, salinity and other trace elements.
EVA-2: Jamon and I took the ATVs and marked a number of waypoints into the GPS. These waypoints were of track intersections and EVAs previously unmarked.
EVA-3: Richard and Edwin went to the plateau near the communications relay station and sampled a number of the fossilized oyster shells that littered the ground. Their EVA was cut short due to a dust storm closing in.
Today's EVAs were delayed a little due to a check of the generator this morning by local mission support, the propane tanks being taken away by Amerigas and finding other sets of gloves to wear with the space suits owing to us washing the gloves yesterday and their not being dry in time for today's EVAs.
Tomorrow's Plan: Tomorrow we will conduct three more EVAs, looking at taking more water samples, hoping to deploy Edwin's rover again and hopefully looking to test out the solar power source for the radio relay station.
Daily Reports: The standard reports should be in on time tonight around 2230.
