Simone's Log
Simone Kosol Reporting

Simone KosolBefore I came to MDRS I expected the desert to be a not very exciting landscape. So the first days here held some surprises for me. I learned about the beauty of the canyons, rock formations and hills. The desert is like a big sculpture made by an artist.

It looks so much like Mars here, especially the spots without vegetation, that there was no problem imagining being in a real Mars habitat where you would die outside if not wearing a space suit. I am sure it will be a strange feeling to leave the station at the end of the sim without a space suit.

I think being on EVA is something not many people have the possibility to experience in their lifes. And it's really a great feeling riding an ATV or walking in the desert wearing a space suit.

I enjoy being here, although I don't think I could stand it for a year as it would be on a real Mars mission. I liked working together with the other crew members, they made up a great crew, but I would feel too much isolated if I really had to stay there for such a long time. I would like to do this again if I got the chance.
