EVA-6 Report
Brent Bos & Mark Moran Reporting
The plan for today's EVA was to first deploy two dust sampling containers around the Habitat on foot and then to leave on ATV for Red Canyon for general recon and search for samples for Simone and Elia's biology research. Then upon return, regular GreenHab monitoring was to take place. The EVA was led by Brent and included Joan and Simone. Mark Moran served as HabCom. Petra Rettberg was left in charge of the Hab.
The team began suit-up shortly after 9:00 and entered the airlock at 9:59. At 10:29 the prebreathe was complete and the crew exited the airlock. At 10:31 am the team deployed Petra's UV dosimeter. At 10:32 refuse was removed from the second airlock and disposed. Brent began making his way to the top of repeater hill at 10:34 to deploy a dust sample container. The sample was deployed at 10:45. At 10:59 the team was back outside the Hab and Brent deployed a second dust container at 11:00. At 11:04 crew mounted ATV's and departed for Red Canyon.
At 11:11 radio communications problems begin. Simone reported to HabCom that the team was trying to find a way into the canyon containing Tank Wash at 11:44. The team traveled to within less than 1 km of Red Canyon and along the way obtained 5 samples for Simone and Elia. Running water at Muddy Creek kept the team from continuing into Red Canyon. The view was spectacular.
At 13:46 the team made radio contact again after emerging from the canyon containing Tank Wash, approximately 4 km away from the Habitat. At 14:04 the team returned to the Hab. GreenHab measurements were made at 14:08 and Petra's dosimeter was retrieved. At 14:10 the team entered the airlock for re-pressurization. Team exited airlock at 14:15.
