Log Book for April 27, 2003
Commander's Summary
Brent Bos Reporting

Today we concentrated on getting the Hab operational after its two week respite. We are not currently operating under any simulation constraints.

We returned to Hanksville today to bring the Michigan rover and ATV's back to the Hab. Elia and Simone we are able to get the flush toilet working only to find out later from mission support that involving the GreenHab in the system is probably a fruitless effort. Nevertheless we are going to run with it now until it completely breaks. We can always go to the back-up position.

Most of the crew with individual research programs spent the afternoon readying their equipment. Petra and Simone prepared their samples in the lab for exposure tomorrow. Mark and Dave practiced using the drill for a future EVA - getting orientation over the phone from the company that provided it. I cleaned up the primary airlock and sealed it up for my dust contamination study. And I also started the human factors study by having the crew answer a questionnaire and perform a computer test. They will be asked to repeat this everyday until the end.

Tomorrow we will be entering a partial simulation mode. The biology team will be going on EVA to deploy their experiments while those who are not providing capcom will be continuing to tidy things up. We hope to be under the fullest simulation constraints possible by tomorrow night.
