General Engineering Report
Derek O'Keeffe Reporting
Generator/Electricity: The gasoline generator was filled at 0630 and again at 1800.This generator continues to be the main source of power for the Hab. The generator was topped up with oil and the electrical auto start function was reconnected and is working well.
Water: Transferred 45 gallons at 09.00
Telescope: The Crew spent a lot of time today trying to get the optical telescope operational. Working with Don Fautz the error in the serial card was fixed (contacts were oxidised and had to be sanded slightly and reinstated into slots) - then Windows 98 booted fine into normal mode. After this we spent some time fixing the cabling in the observatory and got the dome turning. Then we launched RoboFocus and used it to switch on the remote power module on (switches were not labelled in the GUI, so we labelled them). Then in the evening we removed the telescope covers and opened the dome and spent some time aligning the telescope by the two star method with some success. Then we tracked it to Jupiter which worked fine however we could not obtain a good image of Jupiter with either the CCD or manual lenses as we think there may be a focusing problem.
Everest Rover: The Rover generator has been running all day, no problems.
Computers: All machines and networks are running well.
Green Hab: Crew XV has endeavoured to comply with Garry Fisher's requests to monitor the GreenHab's conditions, temperatures taken today:
10.00 - Temp. Inside: 110F
19.00 - Temp. Inside: 66F
We were unable to record humidity as we could not locate hygrometer.
Additional Activities: The Crew carried out one field geological EVA simulation to do strike and dip readings. All equipment worked well.
A webcam was operated in the Hab between 0800-1400 MST for a University of Michigan open day and students were also able to talk to crew members via an IRC webchat program.
