Geology Report
Jody Tinsley Reporting

All of the geologic work today was of the background-research variety, working with topographic maps, geologic maps, cross sections, previous crew reports, and other paper and online resources to plan several EVAs for the next few days. Although some photocopied sections of the topographic map of this area were found in the HAB, as well as the surrounding 1:24,000 topographic quadrangles, no full copies of the quadrangle where the HAB is located were found during the first 2 days of our rotation. Since this is a critical resource, given that the HAB is located in this map area, two copies of the Skyline Rim Quadrangle (1:24,000) were bought yesterday at the BLM office in Hanksville.

With all of the above materials we have planned EVAs for tomorrow to inspect local outcrops and to collect samples. A briefing for the non-geologists in our crew has been prepared. The goals of this briefing are to introduce all members to rock types and geologic principles, to place our upcoming work in the context of the regional geologic setting, and to acquaint all crew members with some of the work performed by previous crews. This briefing, by group consensus, has been deferred until tomorrow morning when all will be more rested and better able to absorb new information.
