EVA-57 Report
Jonathan Clarke Reporting

This EVA on the afternoon of March 11th was a science focussed mission along hab ridge. The primary goal was collection of palaeocurrent data from several sites in the Dakota sandstone for Melissa Battler who had requested the additional information. A secondary goal was to collect additional regolith information.

Two crew members took part in this EVA. They were Jonathan Clarke (geologist) and Nishi Rawat (assistant), ATVs 2 and 3 were used.

Palaeocurrent data was collected at four sites. Measurements at the first two sites were collected from trhough cross-bedded gravelly sandstones filling incised valleys. the third site masured the orientation of tabular cross beds in burrowed sandstone. At the fourth site the orientations of herringbone cross-bedding were measured. With completion of the primary and secondary goals there was sufficient time to carry out a reconnaissance of Skyline Rim.

Communications were adaquate to good during the entire EVA. A highly successful and enjoyable excursion.
