Log Book for March 9, 2003
Crew Diary
Jennifer Laing Reporting

Woke at 6:15 - power went again but I managed to finish packing in the dim early light. The Aussies posed for photos above the Hab, near the flag and then the whole group stood near the Ares for the last photo of the phase three crew. Matt drove Guy, Nancy, Steve and Fathi and I to Salt Lake City - a spectacular drive with some stunning scenery. On the way, Steve conducted some last minute interviews.

We talked about our experiences over the time we were on Expedition One, and I was asked about my highlights of the Expedition. I responded that I couldn't pinpoint one particular day but that there were a lot of wonderful moments I will take home with me.

They included:
  • The first glimpse of the Hab, nestled against rocky, red Martian-like hills.
  • The ear-splitting hum every time the water is turned on.
  • Time spent in the different Rovers with various crews, sharing meals, stories.
  • Hot chocolate and 'Gangster sauce'.
  • Bach's Mass in B Minor at Salt Wash Canyon.
  • Trying on a spacesuit for the first time and the odd sensation of seeing my shadow on the ground like an astronaut.
  • Peach Delight and half a cup of wine with meals.
  • CogState tests on the computer - card games will never be the same again!
  • Glimpsing early morning flurries of snow through the Hab upstairs window.
  • Enjoying my first shower in four days.
  • Movies on a laptop
