Log Book for February 28, 2003
General Engineering Report
Matt Bamsey Reporting

Generator/Electricity: Checked generator frequency gauge on numerous occasions. In the morning there seemed to be more oscillation than there should, but throughout all other checks, the frequency was holding quite steady at 60 Hz. Some basic load balancing was carried out which was followed by the running of a power line to a new external outlet for the Everest rover (detailed electrical report to follow tomorrow).

Propane: At 1845 hrs the tanks measured: South 71%, North 59%, Furnace 75%.

Water: The water tank was refilled from 5 to 53 gallons at 1200 hrs, it was refilled for the second time at 2130 hrs from 15-57 gallons. The leaky downstairs pump used to transfer water from the large external tank to the internal tank was worked on. The output has a plastic fitting that after removal was found to have stripped threads. No new fitting could be found and some 'repair' work had to be performed on the thread using a screwdriver. The fitting was re-installed and the leak rate was decreased to some degree. Overall the leak rate for over the course of a tank filling amounts to approximately 500 ml. A new fitting should be ordered as soon as possible as this should completely fix the leak problem. Specific report to follow.

GreenHab: Living Machine still circulating water over itself. Some work to continue tomorrow.

Everest Rover: The Everest arrived at the hab at approximately 1000 hrs. Setup work was carried out for numerous hours before it departed on an over night EVA. The work included setting up the internal computer systems, tightening bolts that may have been loosened during shipping, etc.

Ares Rover: No new developments.

Datalogger: Numerous software improvements made (see more detailed datalogger report).

Additional Activities: Some caulking installed at the bottom of the large second floor windows to eliminate the entering water during the past few periods of rain/snow.
