General Engineering Report
Matt Bamsey Reporting
Generator/Electricity: Still running on the backup generator. Generator refilled at 0700 hrs and again at 1450hrs. Another small refueling was carried out at 2050hrs. Another fill, as is carried out daily, is to be done at approximately 2230 hrs to assure the generator has enough fuel to last the night. Note these were not all complete fills. Still awaiting governor control board delivery for main generator repair (hopefully tomorrow).
Water: The water tank was refilled from 4 to 41 gallons at 1800 hrs it was refilled for the second time at 2020 hrs from 10-59 gallons (more water used than usual due to water used in GreenHab - see below).
GreenHab: Work to get the GreenHab recirculating on itself was started. The recirculating pump in tank 5 and the pump sending water from tank 4 to the sand filter were checked, and found (as suggested previously) to be dead. These pumps were removed from the system and two new pumps were installed (the other pumps stored in the hab were first checked for functionality and two of the 500 GPH pumps were found to be dead as well). Two 500 GPH pumps were installed in the tanks 4 and 5. Due to the size of the removed pumps we assumed that both were 500 GPH. After installation of the new pumps we realized this was not the case and that the one removed from tank 5 was acutally a 800 GPH pump. We have left the pumps off for tonight but plan to trouble shoot the system tomorrow as it was found that the 500 GPH pumps did not allow the water to circulate equally throughout the entire system (tank 5 could not send water to tank 1 fast enough to keep up with the water entering from the sand filter and water would eventually exit the system through the overflow line).
Additional Activities: All radios and headsets were checked for functionality. The unworking radios and headsets were marked and stored in the cabinet about the desk in the EVA prep room.
More time was spend incorporating improvments into the datalogger design.
Pipes on the ARES were drained and more work on the gloveboxs was carried out.
