Commander's Report
Rocky Persaud Reporting
Today the phase one crew continued intensive training and preparations for our first science EVAs on Monday. In the morning we received training on XMap by Frank Crossman and Craig Snapp. We held a training EVA out near Capitol Reef where the dataloggers and MarsSkins were used for the first time by the biologists and geologists in comparison with the MDRS suits. The debriefing afterwards gradually turned into a briefing for the morning's EVAs.
Due to the delay in the arrival of both the ARES and Everest rovers, I decided to cancel the three overnight rover missions of this week and move those to Phase 3. Shannon Rupert and I spent some time readjusting the EVA schedule, but due to the modularity of the research program this was not difficult.
The crew does seem tired after just two days at this hectic pace, so the schedule readjustment should give them more time to recuperate. Shannon and I picked up the shipment of bulk food from the Whispering Sands motel in Hanksville. We have plenty of food, but it seems many are having difficulty preparing enough portions for the entire group, and I had not realized crewmembers would hesitate to dip into the supply of Meals-Ready-To-Eat without seeking permission. Matters such as that were clarified during our evening crew meeting.
