EVA Report
Crew 13 Reporting

The second, 3rd and 4th EVAs were performed. Team members consisted of Commander Klaus Totzek, Engineer Tom Dirlich and Medical Officer Horst Gehrmann.

Second EVA (EVA-2) was used to practice usage of ATVs in the near surroundings of the Hab. Team members consisted of First Officer Heike Wierzchowski, Engineer Tom Dirlich, Biologist Patrick Diel. Team leader was Tom Dirlich. German TV filmed this occasion.

Third EVA (EVA-3) was the first scouting EVA. The team was the same as before (EVA 2). The area 3 miles to the south of the Hab was explored. Three promising locations for sample gathering were identified and marked by GPS. Radio relay experiment was done in order to expand the operational radius in direct contact to HabCom.

Fourth EVA (EVA-4) was conducted in the afternoon on foot in close proximity to the Hab. Geological drilling and sample gathering techniques were tested. These techniques will be used in the next days on prelocated sites.
