Shakedown Crew Report
The Crew

Frans Blok
Engineer - Holland
Frans is an architect from Holland and turned out the be a great painter. His hard work turned the upper floor into a cozy warm living area. Frans has a sense of style that that is articulate and expressive.
Sarah Kearley
Communications Captain - England
Sarah is from England, where she designs telecom software for a living and is a really great cook. She was a big help painting and won the award for most paint acquired in the hair.
Bo Maxwell
Historian/Suit Technician - England
Bo is a business consultant, also from England, and is the U.K. Mars Society President. Bo took to the suits and the EVA room and made both look great. He had the suits in top shape for all of the EVAs. He is also an expert on submarines. His knowledge kept us entertained for hours. He had the suits in top shape for all EVAs.
Bob Pohl
Geologist - USA
Bob is from Denver and is the local geologist for the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Mars Society. His quick wit and humor made for several great laughs.
Frank Schubert
Engineer/Commander - USA
Frank is an architect from Denver and holds the record for the most slivers acquired in the hab.
Klaus Totzek
Engineer - Germany
Klaus is an architect from Germany and rules in carpet cutting. Klaus is somewhat reserved and was the perfect foil for Bobs humor. And he looks good in a space suit! Klaus worked really hard, painting or drawing constantly.

Although this crew was a shakedown crew and we spent most of our time making the hab better for future crews, we managed to have fun and get in a couple of great EVAs in the suits. We called it a limited sim and made the best of our time at MDRS time. The crew worked very well together and not only improved the MDRS significantly but also came up with a design for the new hab.

This crew got along very well considering that with the exception of Bob Pohl and I, we were strangers. We seemed to fall into a comfortable routine almost immediately. Even when we were debating the design for the new hab, which is a touchy subject between three architects, we were very considerate for each others feelings and there was very little tension. This crew went from being strangers to being good friends in a matter of 5 days. The enthusiasm that the Europeans had for helping finish MDRS was something I hadn't expected. They acted as if it were their hab.( it is), and did an outstanding job. It is a very interesting mix in the Mars Society as shown by this crew. With there being no lifestyle demands made on the members, the only thing we all have in common is our desire to reach for the stars.
