Dr. Markus Landgraf

FMARS Crew Portrait Dr. Markus LandgrafI was born in 1968 in Kassel, Germany 1995 Master in Elementary Particle Physics at the University of Technology Darmstadt 1998 PhD in Kosmophysics at the Max-Planck-Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg 1999 Postdoc Fellowship with the US National Research Council at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston 2000 Visiting Scientist Assignment with the European Space Agency since July 2001 staff Mission Analyst with the European Space Agency

My major scientific background is in the analysis of spacecraft data on cosmic dust particles, with about 20 refereed papers available from my webpage on www.mpi-hd.mpg.de/galileo/~landgraf. Besides my science activities I enjoy flying light signle and twin engine airplanes. Currently I hold a license for Single- and Multi-engine airplanes including an instrument rating and have flown 220 hours in Cessna, Piper (both single and twin), and Mooney.

Regarding the exploration of Mars I am interested in whether or not life has ever evolved on the planet and how this relates to its interplanetary environment. As cosmic dust particles have delivered complex organic material to the surface of all planets, we should be able to find those compounds on the surface.
