FMARS Crew Biographies
Shannon Hinsa

FMARS Crew Portrait Shannon HinsaI'm Shannon Hinsa and I'm currently a graduate student at Dartmouth College in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. I did my undergrad at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (go badgers) and majored in Bacteriology. I am originally from Wisconsin, Green Bay (always a huge Packer fan). Currently my thesis work is on biofilm formation by Pseudomonas fluorescens. I will study environmenal bacteria during my stay at FMARS this year. I plan on using microscopy along with molecular techniques to identify bacteria present in this harsh environment.

I live in New Hampshire and enjoy many outdoor activites including canoeing, biking, hiking and snowshoeing. I enjoy gardening, although I don't know what will happen to mine this summer while I'm up in the arctic. Space travel has always intrigued me and this experience at FMARS should be very rewarding.
