Log Book for April 25, 2006
Commander's Check-In
Dr. William J. Clancey Reporting
Weather: Sunny, calm, intense light and very clear; low 7.0c (44.6 F) high 19.9c (67.8F), humidity 15% at 6 pm.
Crew Physical Status: Continued focused and healthy in good humor.
Brief Narrative of Today's Results: We continued for the second day setting up and testing systems; most are now ready for experimental use.
We installed the two cameras and audio recording for the Crew Activity Analyzer, plus calibrated 5 of the 6 listeners. Some procedural questions were answered by the Foster-Miller developers in Massachusetts.
We configured and tested five of six laptops for the Mobile Agents voice commanding using Bluetooth headsets. Each runs the RIALIST system and a specialized Mobile Agents model (configured for the particular crew member).
From anywhere in the hab, one can now get live data by asking the agent system questions like, "What is the battery status?" and "What is the generator status?" The system responds by voice with the volts and amps. One can ask specific questions such as "What is the hab voltage (usage)?" "What is the solar panel status?" responded "The solar panels are supplying one amp."
The OneMeter system provides only integer data to the agents, and only every 15 minutes. The Brand Electronics developer will provide a firmware upgrade to improve the data refresh time to 1 minute.
Our procedure formalization has broadened from restarting the generator to include other methods of handling power, such as powering the hab by SUVs (by analogy, backing a rover up to the hab to use its power generating capability).
EVA: most of us go out for walks for a break now and then
Plans for Tomorrow: The crew will begin using the power agent monitoring system (e.g., standing in the galley, you could turn on the microwave and ask your agent for a hab amps reading to see the effect). We will attempt to begin recording four crew members' location and audio, as well as recording the fisheye and wide-angle video on the upper deck. We will begin planning the external Mobile Agents experiments to be conducted by Brent.
Report Transmission Schedule: all by 9 pm.
1. Engineering report.
2. GreenHab report
3. CDR Journal
4. Journalist of the Day
Inventory: After preparing dinner two days, I find a shortage of large spoons and related cooking implements, e.g., serving spoon with holes, pasta strainer-scoop (metal), larger tongs. We need two or three more large serving bowls.
Support Requested: No change; await Don's return or Paul's arrival for generator restoration.
Miscellaneous: A reporter asked me how Utah was like the moon. Well, today it was 55 F (12.8c) in the shade, and in the sun, bathing suit weather.
