Narrative (Jason): Today's EVA included a camera crew from Country Music Television (CMT), but substantial data was taken in the process. Returning to the original sand bag site from the 3/25 EVA, the Gamma Scout was exposed to a calibration period while two sand bags were filled on camera. The detector was then placed inside the structure and, while awaiting the data, CMT conducted an interview with both Campeau and Sherwin.
After doing more camera work, the radiation detector was then transported to another location within ~20 yards of the sand bag structure; at this location, natural rock formation shielding was tested. One of the cameramen (Jeff) was kind enough to provide photographs of the location used for the natural rock shielding; these pictures will be obtained within a few weeks after our rotation at MDRS and added to the data report.
Narrative (Jenny): Most of our EVA time was spent repeating simple tasks (exiting the airlock, dismounting the ATV's, etc.) for the news people. I had my sextant with me in hopes of taking a reading, but since we were out around local noon to accommodate the aforementioned news people, the sun was too high in the sky for the sextant to measure.
Narrative (Anne): Today's EVA was for the media. They had a plan, and we followed - while still squeezing in some radiation research. We were filmed traveling to the research site, at the research site, after we finished the research, etc. They had the cameras on us for the entire time. It was great that we got good data for Jason's radiation and the camera crew was happy with our cooperation while we boiled in the suits. We killed two birds with one stone.
