Science Report
Jenny Rome Reporting
Biology (Meryl): The plants were not watered today. The four of the pea plants (Phaseolus vulgaris) planted on 3/21/06 in tray 6 are sprouting. Two tomato plants are sprouting. The other plants remain healthy. We will attempt to remove flies and aphids from the affected plants tomorrow by wiping them off with paper towels and carefully discarding them.
Water quality testing continued today in the GreenHab tanks. Today's samples were taken from 6 inches below the surface of the tanks. Ammonia testing was done with diluted samples again today. Our results are included below.
- All tanks: Nitrate and Nitrite concentration at 0ppm
- pH: 7.2 for tank 1, 7.1 for tank 3, and 7.0 for tanks 2, 4, and 5
- Ammonia: 20ppm for tanks 1-3, 10ppm for tank 4, 15ppm for tank 5
Human Factors (Jan): The participants keep taking MASCOT and MOODY tests.
Radiation (Jason): There was no new data taken today. However, the data taken from yesterday's EVA was processed and sent to Mission Support. We appear to have gotten acceptable data for a radiation map of the route taken on yesterday's EVA. Tomorrow, the EVA plan is to return to the sand bag location, so the two-layer shielding research data will be taken then.
